Notes: A bus is defined as a motor vehicle (including school buses, intercity
buses, and transit buses) designed to carry more than 10 passengers, not
including the driver. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) implemented an enhanced methodology
for estimating registered vehicles and vehicle miles traveled by vehicle type
for the years 2007-2009. As a result, involvement rates may differ, and in some
cases significantly, from previously published rates.
Sources: Vehicle Miles of Travel and Registered Vehicles: Federal Highway
Administration. PDO Crashes and Vehicles Involved: National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, General Estimates System (GES).
