- Under the Transportation Equity Act of the 21 Century (TEA-21) and the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999 (MCSIA), the Performance and Registration Information Systems Management (PRISM) grants funding authorization was part of the contract authority for information systems codified at 49 U.S.C. 31107.
- Additional grant funding for PRISM starting fiscal year 2006 has been authorized by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy of Users (SAFETEA-LU) (Public Law 109-59, Sections 4101(c)(3) and 4109), 49 U.S.C. 31106 and 31109, as amended.
- PRISM grant funding for fiscal years 2013-2014 is authorized by the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) (Public Law 112-141, Sections 32602 and 32603). Authorization for PRISM grant funding by MAP-21 is done through amending current law: SAFETEA-LU.
