2013 Presidential Inauguration – Information for Passenger Carriers and Bus Travelers

The upcoming 57th Presidential Inauguration promises to be a momentous and memorable occasion. It also promises to bring a significant influx of travelers in cars and buses. And, we at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) want to make sure everyone who travels in and out of the Washington, DC area arrives and leaves safely. This page provides some information and resources to help both passenger carriers and bus travelers to do just that.

Passenger Carriers

FMCSA is committed to improving passenger carrier safety. In the coming days, dozens of motorcoach operators will travel to Washington, DC for the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. We would like to remind all carriers to maintain safe practices on the road and obey all applicable Federal safety regulations.

Planning a bus trip? Look before you book!

There’s more to consider than just price and convenience. If you are purchasing a bus ticket or hiring a bus company for your group’s travel, safety should be the top priority. Don’t risk your life or the lives of others by making an uninformed decision. Now, with the free SaferBus app, users can easily access a bus company’s safety performance record, file a complaint and more from a mobile device. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has developed the SaferBus mobile application to provide 24/7 access to important safety information that you should verify before you select a U.S. DOT registered bus company to transport you or members of your group. Don’t take a chance. Look before you book!

Have you experienced safety, service or discrimination issues with a bus company?

Please call 1-888-DOT-SAFT (368-7238) from 9am‒7pm, Mon‒Fri EST or go online to file a complaint with the FMCSA National Consumer Complaint Database, which can also be accessed using the SaferBus application. Remember, always call 911 in the case of a safety emergency.
